Phase 4 - REHABILITATION
Impact Statement Form:
This form used by the Student Resource Center is designed to be used some time after the resolution of the bullying situation but within the same school year - possibly near the end of the school year. Its purpose is twofold. Firstly, it allows targeted students to reflect more objectively on the bullying, to see it as a wrong done to them that was hurtful at the time, to express rather than suppress anger about it if they wish and to recognize that they have survived and can survive bullying. Secondly, it allows them to realize that it is O.K. to look back on the bullying situation and analyze it rather than deny that it ever happened. There is evidence that damage done by bullying in school often only exhibits itself later, perhaps during adult life. This may be because the bullying was so hurtful and undermining at the time that the targeted student goes into denial and never actually deals with it. It is hoped that the ongoing anti-bullying Program in school will already, by its nature, have helped to prevent this tendency to denial by very visibly dealing with bullying as a matter of fact, working to prevent it and supporting those targeted. This exercise attempts to reinforce this and allow the targeted student to deal with the situation in a managed environment supported by a member of the anti-bullying team and possibly even bring closure on what has been a difficult episode in the student's life.
